The MP8 is the engine inside most Mack Anthem, Pinnacle, and Granite trucks on the road. It shares its block, head, and fuel system with the Volvo D13, by design. Volvo Group consolidated heavy-duty engine programs after acquiring Mack in 2001 and has built one engine that wears two brands ever since. The differences are in calibration (Mack favors higher peak torque, Volvo favors peak horsepower) and in branding. The advantage to a fleet running both badges is that filter inventory works across them. The disadvantage is a customer who walks into a parts counter asking for "Mack filters" and gets handed a Volvo cross-reference. The product is correct. The conversation is awkward.
