Brake Shoes PA4709 / FMSI 4709 - 16.5" x 7" S-Cam Heavy-Duty

The S-Cam air-brake design is older than most of the drivers using it. Its endurance comes from being almost unreasonably simple, a cam that rotates to push a roller up the back of a shoe, the shoe expanding against a drum, the drum slowing a wheel. The PA4709 is the standard friction-grade shoe for 16.5 by 7 inch drum brakes, the same geometry as the Q-Plus version, with the friction formulation calibrated for line-haul duty where most braking events are moderate and steady rather than emergency or sustained-grade.
