Is the Cummins X15 the same as ISX15?

The Cummins X15 is essentially the same engine as the ISX15, but rebadged. Cummins called it ISX from 2002, ISX15 starting in 2010 with the EPA 2010 emissions update, and X15 from 2017 onward. The 2017 rename coincided with internal updates: a new high-pressure common-rail (XPI generation), revised aftertreatment, and packaging improvements. Mechanically, the engines share the same 14.9-liter inline-six platform, same bore and stroke, same fundamental block. Filters are not always interchangeable across the rename: pre-2017 ISX15 and post-2017 X15 use different fuel filter generations (FF5776 vs FF5825NN), different oil filter housings on certain configurations, and different DPF cartridges. Always verify model year before ordering parts. The 2020 Stage V refresh introduced another set of changes within the X15 line.
