The Detroit DD15 oil filter housing torque spec varies by generation. For the 2007-2019 DD15 (Gen 1 and Gen 2), the oil filter cap torque is 25 N·m (18 ft-lb). For the 2020+ Gen 5 DD15, the spec changed to 30 N·m (22 ft-lb) due to the revised housing seal design. Always verify against the engine label or the current Detroit Diesel service manual; running changes appear within model years. For oil filter spin-on style (older DD15 configurations and cross-fit applications), the rule is hand-tight plus 3/4 turn after gasket contact, no torque wrench needed. Over-torquing the housing cap is the most common cause of cracked housings on this engine; under-torquing causes leaks. The 25 to 30 N·m range is firm but not extreme. Use a torque wrench, not feel.
